An AKC-Recognized Variety

Parti & Sable Cocker Spaniels

Crisp white-and-color parti markings and warm shaded sables — bold, photogenic Cocker Spaniel puppies raised in our North Carolina home.

Parti vs. Sable

Two patterns, often combined.

Parti and sable are two of the most visually distinct expressions of the Cocker Spaniel — and two of the most frequently confused. Parti describes a pattern (white + color, at least 50% white). Sable describes a color (dark-tipped hairs over a lighter base). When the two meet, the result is a sable parti: a white-grounded coat with shaded patches that deepen with age.

We breed for clean, balanced parti markings and warm, dimensional sables alongside our solid and merle lines. Every Sovereign Spaniel pairing is planned around structure, temperament, and color genetics confirmed by Embark DNA testing.

Parti & Sable FAQ

Common questions

What is a parti Cocker Spaniel?
+
A parti (short for parti-color) Cocker Spaniel has a coat that is at least 50% white, broken with patches of a second color — black, chocolate, red, buff, or sable. The white is crisp and clean, and the colored patches can be any size, from large blanket markings to small ticked spots. Parti is genetically distinct from solid colors and traces back to the original spaniel lines.
What is the difference between parti and sable Cocker Spaniels?
+
Parti refers to the white-and-color pattern (how the color is distributed). Sable refers to the color itself — a coat where individual hairs are tipped with black or dark brown over a lighter base, creating a shaded, almost dimensional appearance. The two can combine: a sable parti has a white base broken with shaded sable patches.
Are parti Cocker Spaniels AKC recognized?
+
Yes — parti-color is a recognized variety under the AKC Cocker Spaniel breed standard, alongside Black, ASCOB (Any Solid Color Other than Black), and Parti-color. Sable is recognized as a color within the parti variety. Our parent dogs are purebred Cocker Spaniels with verified bloodlines.
How much do parti and sable Cocker Spaniel puppies cost?
+
Sovereign Spaniel parti and sable Cocker Spaniel puppies range from $2,800 to $4,000 depending on markings, color combination, and structure. Bold, balanced parti markings and rare combinations like chocolate parti or sable parti are at the upper end.
Do parti Cocker Spaniel puppies change as they grow?
+
Yes. Parti puppies are often born with mostly white coats and develop their patches and ticking over the first six to twelve weeks. Roan ticking (small flecks of color in the white) can continue to develop until about a year of age, deepening the overall pattern.
Where do you ship parti Cocker Spaniel puppies?
+
We are based in North Carolina and prefer in-person pickup at our home. Ground nanny transport throughout the Southeast US can be arranged at the buyer's expense for approved homes.
