Chocolate Merle
Rich chocolate base broken with patches of diluted lilac and tan. Often paired with one or two blue eyes — our most sought-after merle.

A Rare Coat, Ethically Bred
Blue merle, chocolate merle, and sable merle Cocker Spaniel puppies — raised in North Carolina from health-tested, DNA-verified parents.
What Makes a Merle
The merle Cocker Spaniel is one of the most distinctive — and most misunderstood — variations of the breed. The merle gene produces a marbled coat with patches of diluted pigment over a darker base, often paired with one or two brilliant blue eyes. No two merle Cockers are alike.
At Sovereign Spaniel, every merle puppy is the product of a planned, health-tested breeding. We use Embark DNA panels on all parent dogs and never breed merle-to-merle, which eliminates the genetic risk that gives the pattern its (undeserved) reputation. The result is healthy, single-merle puppies with structure, temperament, and the dramatic coat the pattern is known for.
Color Variations

Rich chocolate base broken with patches of diluted lilac and tan. Often paired with one or two blue eyes — our most sought-after merle.

Black base diluted into silver-grey patches with darker mottling. The classic merle look — striking against the Cocker's flowing coat.

A warm sable base with subtle merle dappling — an understated, elegant variation that often deepens with age.

Ethical Merle Breeding
The reputation merle has in some circles comes almost entirely from one practice: breeding two merle parents together. Double-merle puppies can be born deaf, blind, or both. We do not — and will never — breed merle-to-merle.
